Academician Yu first introduced the background of intelligent manufacturing with German Industry 4.0 and China Manufacturing 2025. It is believed that lean manufacturing, efficient manufacturing, flexible manufacturing, service manufacturing and green manufacturing brought by intelligent manufacturing have provided new dynamism for the development of textile and garment industry.

Academician Yu believes that the key development areas of textile intelligent manufacturing should focus on four aspects: The first is textile intelligent optimization manufacturing, with the aim of improving product quality, improving total factor productivity, and developing flexible manufacturing capabilities. The second is the scale of textile and apparel customization, the purpose is to adapt to changes in consumer demand, enhance product added value and enhance brand influence. The third is the collaborative manufacturing of textiles and garments, with the aim of producing comprehensive interconnection, lean manufacturing and agile manufacturing, energy conservation, consumption reduction and emission reduction in the manufacturing process. The fourth is the key technologies to be developed including sensing technology, digital identification technology, Wi-Fi technology, Web technology, and big data technology. The construction of the textile intelligent manufacturing system should be based on the process basis, digital and networked, intelligent implementation path. Textile smart factories should contain all aspects of production equipment, production management, data collection, data management, data analysis, and industry development.

Finally, Academician Yu believes that there are six key points in the intelligent manufacturing of textile enterprises. First, it is necessary to make great efforts to promote the development of intelligent manufacturing without losing the opportunity. Second, it is demanding that China's manufacturing industry is still in the late stage of development of “Industry 2.0”, and a lot of work needs to be done. Third, the core of intelligent manufacturing is digital, networked and intelligent manufacturing. The value of the fourth intelligent manufacturing lies in supporting the innovation of the business itself, helping the enterprise to promote business transformation and upgrading. As the main body of promoting intelligent manufacturing, the enterprise must realistically explore the technical path suitable for its transformation and upgrading. The fifth is to digitize the business and digitize various state information of enterprise manufacturing resources, business processes, and supply chain management. At the same time, data should be business-oriented, and the data should be deeply analyzed and explored to explore the optimization process.
